India News: Jharkhand Is Improving Quality Of Education Through ‘Schools Of Excellence’

These schools will be developed like private schools and will ensure that a child from the marginalized sections of the society gets quality education which is at par with private schools.

Jharkhand is taking concrete measures to provide quality education to the students of the state by converting government schools into ‘Schools of Excellence’.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren recently announced that government schools in the state will be turned into model schools.

The state government will transform 80 schools across all the districts of the State into ‘School of Excellence’.

The education department has already floated a tender for the same.

The objective is to transform the state’s 5,000 government-run schools into modern education facilities.

What are ‘Schools of Excellence

The schools will be equipped with an uninterrupted electricity supply, the installation of eye-friendly lights and a clean atmosphere.

The classrooms will boast of smart board facilities where students can learn through the virtual and 3D representation of subject material.

These schools will be developed like private schools and will ensure that a child from the marginalized sections of the society gets quality education which is at par with private schools.

Labs, libraries and STEM labs will be established in each school.

IIM to train teachers in Model Schools

The principals and teachers deputed in these schools will be trained by IIM, XLRI, NCERT, and NEIP.

First, 27 Zila Schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) into Model Schools.

In the second phase, 500 schools will be developed as a school of excellence under the ‘Adarsh Vidyalaya Scheme’ while in the third phase, the state government is planning to have Model schools in every Panchayat

“With the help of premier institutes such as IIM, XLRI, NCERT, and NEIP, principals and teachers deputed in these ‘Model Schools’ will be given focused training as per the national and international standards,” the CM had said.

The state education department is also working on roping in expert trainers from different parts of the country to provide regular training to the teaching staff.

Teachers posted at such schools will be given subject-wise training on a timely basis for the development of technical capacity in the respective subject and smart management of the classroom.

15 lakh children to benefit

The School of Excellence will cater to the needs of the students from pre-primary level to class 12th.

About 15 lakh children across the state will benefit from this scheme. These will cater to the requirement of students from pre-primary level to class 12th.

Additionally, the scheme aims to admit 1,000 to 1,200 students to these schools where admission will be done on the basis of merit.

Earlier, due to lack of sanitation and lavatory facilities at schools, the drop-out rate of girls from high schools was high. Keeping this in mind, school premises with separate lavatory facilities for both girls and boys.

Before the formation of the state in 2000, there were only 59 plus two schools in the region comprising Jharkhand in undivided Bihar. In 2006-07, 171 schools were upgraded to plus two levels in various parts of the state.

In the 2015-16 academic year, 280 more schools were added to this list.
